A little about me and the web site

Originally from a small burg on the northern border of Philadelphia, I now
reside in a larger burg north of Boston, a tad south of New Hampshire.

Officially, (or at least alternatively) the name is pronounced YURkeez.  We say it YURkess.

You can e-mail me at Bill (at) WWYerkes (dot) net

A distant relative, Charles Tyson Yerkes endowed the eponymous observatory
in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. It has the world's largest refracting telescope in use.

As seen in the movie, Chain Reaction starring Keanu Reeves (God help me)

And in doing so, got a lunar crater named after him (Yerkes did, not Reeves).

Then there's the Yerkes National Primate Research Center of Emory University

All of this springing from the loins of Anthony Yerkes who landed in Philadelphia around 1700.

I presume he was christened Anthonij Luittien Gerckes in Leeuwarden, Friesland, Netherlands
on 10 November 1654. Click here for details.
